Raw alpaca fleece blanket (whole, skirted, varying colours and quality)

Raw alpaca fleece blanket (whole, skirted, varying colours and quality)

At Hideaway Wood Farm we have 32 alpacas which need to be shorn yearly.

We specialise in high quality alpacas with a focus on grey and multi (patchy) colours. Many people who work with their fleece value the multi colours as it means more variety without the need for dyeing.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss your specific requirements before making a purchase.

The fleeces are available in a variety of quality and colours and come in clear moth proof protective bags, skirted and labelled ready for spinning and felting projects.

Our blankets range from very fine with a good staple length, crimp and lustre to more coarse fibres with a shorter staple length. This impacts the price each of our fleeces goes for.

The fleece is roughly skirted but unwashed and uncarded and may contain traces of organic products (hay etc).

Alpaca fleece is considered a luxury product, comparable to cashmere and fine merino wool. It is hypo-allergic and incredibly warm and soft.

The fleece varies in its quality from animal to animal in terms of its fineness and density and the fleece itself has differing quality aspects depending on where it was shorn from.

The 'blanket', which comes from the alpaca's back is considered the highest grade part of the fleece and can be used for spinning and made into a high quality yarn.

The 'seconds', which come from the neck, belly and legs can be used for needle felting, stuffing duvets, pillows and teddies, bird nesting material and more. These are also available to purchase in our shop.
