Meet Deva and Duncan our two littlest boys who will soon be joining the walking team!
I’ve been very gradually and slowly introducing them to the idea of walking since they were a year old. It started with simply getting closer to them and very slowly worked up to haltering and leading.
This week they went out on their second practice walk and made it all the way round the track! It won’t be long until they’re ready for the public walks and you can come and hang out with them!
Deva son of Amelie (our playful black female who always runs to the fence to say on our public walks). They both leap in the air when they’re having showers - a funny trait that seems to have been passed down the line.
Deva is honestly one of the cutest little alpacas I’ve ever seen. His little face is just absolutely gorgeous. He had a bit of a rough start and was a bit sickly but he’s picked up and has been an absolute dream to train. He’s taken to it all effortlessly, loved TTouch and strokes from the off and already shows an inclination to lead on walks.
Duncan son of Biscuit (our nervous, anxious girl who screams at everyone at meal times unless she gets her own bowl. She’s also wildly intuitive and is always drawn to those who need her). Duncan has inherited (or learned? or both?) her nervousness and her habit of dropping her head super low when I need to do her health checks.
Duncan is beautiful. His eyelashes go on for miles and he’s so very gentle. Despite his nervous disposition he is already walking so well. He’s not done a lot of grazing out an about yet, which for me is always the sign I’m looking for to know an alpaca has settled into being out with us but I’m sure he will. His brother Champion took a long time too.
