1. Purpose
Hideaway Wood Farm is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible, sustainable, and ethical manner. We aim to protect and enhance the natural environment, reduce our ecological footprint, and inspire our visitors, volunteers, and partners to do the same.

2. Scope
This policy applies to all aspects of our operations, including land management, events, visitor facilities, animal care, procurement, and waste management. It covers staff, volunteers, visitors, and contractors.

3. Our Commitments

3.1 Waste & Resource Management
-
All toilets on site are non-flushable compost toilets, minimising water use and producing safe compost.
-
We recycle all grey water from sinks and showers on site to irrigate our willow beds.
-
We provide recycling bins and food waste bins for staff, visitors, and event caterers.
-
We source surplus and rescued food from local food larders for catering at events, reducing food waste.

3.2 Biodiversity & Habitat
-
We have planted 8,000 trees and shrubs to date and will plant a further 2,000 within the next year to improve biodiversity, provide wildlife habitats, and enhance carbon capture.
-
We do not use herbicides or pesticides, protecting pollinators, soil health, and local ecosystems.
-
We use natural alpaca care methods wherever possible, reducing reliance on synthetic treatments.

3.3 Sustainable Travel
-
We actively encourage visitors to car share or use public transport to reach us, helping reduce emissions from travel to our site.

3.4 Food & Growing
-
We grow some of our own produce on site to supply events and activities.
-
We prioritise local, seasonal, and low-waste food sourcing.

3.5 Energy & Water
-
We aim to reduce energy use across all operations and seek renewable energy solutions where feasible.
-
Water usage is minimised through compost toilets, grey water recycling, and water-efficient equipment.

4. Communication & Engagement
-
We share our environmental values with visitors through signage, events, and educational activities.
-
We work with local suppliers and partners who share our environmental ethos.

5. Continuous Improvement
We will:
-
Monitor our environmental impact annually.
-
Identify opportunities for improvement in waste reduction, resource efficiency, biodiversity, and sustainable practices.
-
Review and update this policy each year to ensure it reflects best practice and our latest commitments.
